Methamphetamine was first synthesized in Japan in 1919 by a chemist named Akira Ogata. The drug was developed for medical purposes and was initially used as a nasal decongestant and bronchodilator. It was later used to treat a variety of conditions, including obesity, narcolepsy, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
